History
Founded in 1852, the Oak Ridge Military Academy is the third-oldest military school in the nation and is the official military school of the state. The surrounding area that is now Oak Ridge, which previously consisted of rural farmland full of tobacco and strawberry fields, was named after the military academy. The town was officially incorporated in 1998, and soon became a hot spot for upscale housing developments due to its central location. In March 2017, Oak Ridge received a “Tree City” designation from the Arbor Day Foundation.
